Back in 2023, Ian Ferguson slid into a new chapter with his single “New Love,” which saw the Nashville-based folk artist channeling the type of vintage psychedelic bubblegum-pop that was last popularized by the Bay Area garage rock scene in the early 2010s. Now releasing music under the mononym Ferguson, he’s pushing even further into experimental pop territory and lovelorn lyricism with his new track “Never in My Life.” Vibrant synths, sharp guitar, and ooh-ing backing vocals all help to accent a song which effectively translates the butterflies that come with a newly unfolding courtship to music. “‘Never In My Life’ is an ode to freshly sparked romance,” the artist confirms, “to the feeling of locking eyes from across a crowded room and knowing that, amidst the chaos, you and this person are on the same wavelength.”

Arriving with the two-and-a-half-minute single is a choreographed music video directed by Casey Pierce—check that out below, and anticipate the song’s official release this Friday. Additionally, Ferguson has a pair of shows slated for next week in NYC and at home in Nashville, which you can purchase tickets for here.
