The War and Treaty—the duo of Michael and Tanya Trotter—have been creeping into the forefront of the contemporary country-soul scene since releasing their debut album Healing Tide back in 2018. Based in Nashville, and therefore steeped in the cultures of both of their primary genre influences, they’ve continually evolved their gospel-inspired take on Southern rock music over the course of two additional albums as they release LP number four today, Plus One.
Yet the Valentine’s Day released date is far from their only qualification for their performance tonight at the Grand Ole Opry’s ongoing “It Takes Two” series, which celebrates the iconic venue’s centennial—the husband-and-wife vocalists have long kept romance at the forefront of their passionate lyrics, with Plus One and 2023’s Lover’s Game being no exception. Before the duo return to the Opry on their album’s release day to host their own night of music, Michael and Tanya walked us through another recent performance at the venue, from breakfast with their “day-to-day manager” (and daughter) Courtney to unwinding after the gig. Check out their photos below, and grab tickets for their release show here.

Tanya: Our perfect day in Nashville starts at our home with our family.
Michael: Family business hard at work—Courtney Trotter, our daughter/day-to-day manager, always makes me smile.

Tanya: Time to get to work!
Michael: The Nashville skyline always looks amazing from our label offices.

Michael: Always a good day at BMI in Nashville. We love getting to connect with our fans.
Tanya: In preparation for the upcoming album, we try to shoot content and schedule interviews daily.

Michael: UMG Nashville family meeting! We are so grateful for the support of our team and our label, and we are so excited for our new album!

Michael: Whenever we’re downtown, we have to stop by our exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame American Currents! Proud to have memories there with our kids, Courtney and Legend!
Tanya: It was such an incredible honor to be included among country music legends in this year’s exhibit.

Tanya: Connecting with our fans is my favorite part of any day in Nashville.
Michael: This is what it’s all about: gratitude to the ones that give you altitude! We love getting to meet our fans, hear their stories, and celebrate our wins with them!

Tanya: Now it’s time to get ready for the show!
Michael: The Opry backstage is starting to feel like home for us! We take these moments with our team and family to laugh, reflect, and feel the spirit that exists in this sacred space.

Michael: Will the circle be unbroken. We always love performing at the Opry, and we look at it as our home away from home. It’s a truly sacred place, and we’re honored every time we grace this stage! We are incredibly excited to host our own night at the Opry!

Tanya: The show is a success, now time to unwind. We got the opportunity to shoot one of our videos from our upcoming release, Plus One, at the Nashville Palace!
Michael: No place to cut loose in Nashville like the Nashville Palace—can I get an amen!
