We’ve been through an unthinkable tragedy here in Los Angeles with the recent wildfires, but as you must certainly have witnessed by now, the good folks of LA really give a f*ck about helping each other out during this long road to recovery. On Wednesday night at the Hollywood Palladium, a tremendous lineup of over 20 renowned artists from LA and beyond joined forces for G*ve a F*ck LA, a benefit show and auction supporting Altadena Girls, Friends in Deed, One Voice, and Pasadena Humane Society.

It was a magical yet bittersweet evening, filled with artists sharing their love for LA, as the night’s host John C. Reilly—who lost his home in the fires himself—brought humor, compassion, and heartbreak to the stage as he held down the event for over three hours, ushering in back-to-back short sets from St. Vincent, Hayley Williams, MUNA, Juliette Lewis, FINNEAS, Lucy Dacus, Reggie Watts, The Linda Lindas, Perfume Genius, Christopher Owens, and more.

Among the many notable moments, highlights included St. Vincent’s crushing performance of her song “Los Angeles,” Waxahatchee’s surprise set with her partner Kevin Morby, comedian Fred Armisen’s history of punk-rock drumming in under five minutes, and Hayley Williams performing with Ken Andrews of Failure before dancing around the stage with Symone—the winner of season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race—as she lip-synched to Paramore songs.

In one of the most fitting and impactful moments of the night, Jenny Lewis took the stage in a Girl Scout outfit representing the Altadena-area Daisy Girl Scouts, who have been raising funds for fire relief through their sales, as she passed out cookies to the audience. She then brought out Hayley Williams, MUNA’s Katie Gavin, and her Rilo Kiley bandmate Pierre de Reeder to perform the Rilo Kiley track about LA, “Let Me Back In,” closing with the lyrics: “And when the palm trees bow their heads / No matter how cruel I’ve been / LA, you always let me back in.” The night closed with Phantom Planet playing their O.C. smash “California” with a giant sing-along finale with most of the night’s guests on stage.
