Beloved songwriter and known entourage-wrangler Lucy Dacus returns today with another tender ballad from her forthcoming solo record, Forever Is a Feeling. “Best Guess” is a continuation of the soft-rock sound established on previous singles “Ankles” and “Limerence,” with the gentle tone established at the song’s onset barely picking up momentum beyond small flourishes like the percussive triangle effectively modeled by Dacus in the track’s official music video.
Said video also explores the artist’s deep contact list, with a supporting cast of “hot mascs” (as the open casting call put it) led by familiar faces, such as those of Cara Delevigne, Towa Bird, MUNA’s Naomi McPherson, and Grey’s Anatomy’s ER Fightmaster. Together, they recreate the imagery of 1990s Calvin Klein shoots, complete with hardly competitive table sports and arm wrestling match-ups.
