WATCH: Sing Along with Lower Dens in Karaoke-Bar “Sucker’s Shangri-La” Video

They couldn't splurge on a private room?

Lower Dens‘ atmospheric Escape from Evil delivered forty minutes of shimmering vibe that “when applied correctly, could function as a soundtrack to an alternate universe John Hughes movie,” as we wrote on the album’s release. Today, the Baltimore group have released a video for “Sucker’s Shangri-La” that finds an anonymous solitary man in a Chinatown bar singing the song karaoke. The mostly empty room—and the grainy footage of singer Jana Hunter upon which the lyrics are superimposed—enhance the pangs of nostalgia, longing, and regret already present in the song. In other words, it’s a John Hughes movie in miniature. Check it out below.
