Last Tuesday at SXSW, fans in Austin started lining up at 3Ten at ACL hours early in hopes of getting into the opening of the JBL Sound Bodega, a three-day pop up experience where DJ Pee .Wee (a.k.a. Anderson .Paak) kicked off the activation with a rousing appearance complete with a Soul Train–inspired dance line and trumpet accompaniment by his Free Nationals bandmate Maurice Brown.
The good times (and the lines) continued throughout the next two days, with one of the most eclectic lineups at SXSW, including rousing indie rockers Sunflower Bean, blues and soul guitar prodigy Grace Bowers, producer/label owner LP Giobbi, Mexican “folkpirano” singer Damaris Bojor, Australian party-starters Confidence Man, Appalachian folk singer Mon Rovîa, Latin star NSQK, Otoe-Missouria and Keetoowah Cherokee songwriter Sierra Spirit, LA-based songwriter Jess Meilman, and local Austin artist Mobley. The space also saw surprise visits from regional Mexican superstar Ivan Cornejo and country singer Brittney Spencer.
FLOOD photographer Daniel Cavazos was there throughout it all to capture the performances, along with the atmosphere of SXSW festival-goers taking in all the colorful corner-store decor, endless giveaways, photo ops, and lucky winners who snagged JBL speakers out of the SuperClaw machine. Find our full photo recap of the three-day event below.
