After releasing their debut single back in November, LA-based band Jawdropped recently announced that this alt-rock treatise on stardom, “Star,” would close out their debut EP titled Just Fantasy, which is set to arrive in April via Fire Talk imprint Angel Tapes. That news landed with a grungier, ’gazier track called “Skully,” which will open the EP on a much heavier note, and today they’re sharing one more single that tips the scales toward a breezier pop-rock sound recalling the sanded-down post-punk of contemporaries like Disq.

In being the EP’s near-title-track, “Fantasy” also feels informed by the same themes that guide “Star”—namely those often associated with the dog-eat-dog nature of their star-making hometown of Los Angeles, where anyone whose parents are willing to send them money on Venmo naturally has an edge on the competition. “‘Fantasy’ is about evil thoughts that you would never want anyone else to know about,” the band shares. “It’s about the daydream that goes haywire. The characters in your life that are long gone, but never forgotten. It’s about a memory that comes back clear as day, and you have no idea if, alongside it, is a good or bad feeling.”

The track comes paired with a video directed by Hunter Milano and shot and edited by Rob Fraebel which depicts the band performing at a casting call for something called “Hollywood Fever Dream.” I won’t spoil whether they get the gig or not, but I will tell you to keep an eye out for local celebrity Pendant.
