Richmond’s Keep were most recently heard from at the onset of 2023 when they released their pummeling collection Happy in Here, which blended their adoration for Slowdive with a heavy post-punk edge. The quartet returns today with a new single called “Fun Facts” that serves as an introduction to their newly revealed follow-up LP, Almost Static, which they’ll be self-releasing on May 30 (their summer 2023 single “Sodawater” also appears on the tracklist). The new cut is a continuation of that more forcefully composed early-’90s alt-rock sound, with slacker vocals drilling their way through the surrounding cavernous noise.
While the lyrics can be hard to comprehend, the band assures us that they’re every bit as nihilistic as the music sounds—from the crashing percussive intro to the closing squeal of deafening feedback. “‘Fun Facts’ is about feeling checked out of your life,” the group notes. “It’s about making peace with the fact that everything feels pointless. Everything is happening around you and you feel helpless.”
Almost Static’s release date will be followed by a string of East Coast shows in June supporting Turnover on their Peripheral Vision anniversary tour. For now, check out the music video for the track below, which incorporates imagery from the record’s album art as well as scenes of the band jamming in an empty bedroom.
