After dropping a slew of singles on Bandcamp beginning in 2018, London-based songwriter David Zbirka released his full-length debut as Sunnbrella back in 2023. Heartworn was a cozy blend of dream-pop and baggy revivalism, dragging traditionally melancholy sounds more comfortably into the realm of dance music. Yet his forthcoming follow-up LP, Gutter Angel, is shaping up to be a little more complex and a lot more chaotic—recent single “Tuff” is just what its name suggests, adding some lightly grungy effects to Sunnbrella’s established sound, while his latest track “Nothing Forever” explodes into full-on rave-ready hyperpop.

Out today, the pulsating single pairs pitched vocals with glitched-out samples and raging synths to craft a densely layered portrait of modern existence. “The song is about the tension between beauty and decay, connection and detachment,” shares Zbirka. “I always try to marry the ugly with the beautiful in my music, and ideally make it danceable as well. What better way to do that than to set it all to a four-to-the-floor kick?”
