Chicago post-everything icons Tortoise have surprised and delighted me on this fine morning with a new track called “Oganesson,” which marks their first new single in almost 10 years. I’ve spent 30 minutes this morning listening to “Oganesson” in between revisiting TNT, so I can offer the following information: there is a really cool drum groove from John Herndon (father of 2hollis), nasty (in the good way) guitar chords from Jeff Parker, and a dizzying yet groovy bass line from Douglas McCombs. In short? Peak Tortoise.

The track arrives just hours before the group is set to perform at the Big Ears Festival, where they will reportedly be playing several new pieces of music in addition to some of their most celebrated cuts. Apparently more music is on the way soon. Hell yeah.
