Fans of Chicago-based trio Pet Symmetry may have noticed a theme to the band’s last three singles released over the past three years, “Big Engagement,” “Big Steve,” and “Big Island”—I am, of course, referring to the big pop-punk choruses that define each track. Today the band is announcing that they have a full album of big choruses set to be released a month from tomorrow, with Big Symmetry shaping up to be the band’s biggest release to date.
With the three prior singles slotted within the track list, today the band is sharing another new song from the release that’s about mileage and is called—you guessed it—“Big Mileage.” The driving pop-punk track is quite literally also about driving, with vocalist Evan Weiss and his backing chorus of Marcus Nuccio and Erik Czaja belting out an homage to a bygone tour van. “I feel a special connection to my cars,” Weiss explains. “I’ve written several songs about all of them throughout the years. Vanessa the Van was one of the best vehicles I had ever owned. It took me all around the United States and Canada for 10 years. 350,000 miles. Never acted up. Always reliable. Always good to the band. Always safe. Finally it came time to sell it and I was frankly heartbroken, but knew it was time. This song is about letting go of the ones you love.”
Big Symmetry arrives May 2 via Storm Chasers LTD and Asian Man. Pre-order the album here, and check out the new single below.
