Revival Season is the raucous collaboration of rapper Bez Evans and musician Jonah Swilley, whose garage-rock chops include a stint with the bluesy Atlanta outfit Mattiel and production credits for the deep-trip psych band Night Beats. Not long after the release of their 2023 debut mixtape Outernational, Heavenly Recordings took notice and released their debut album Golden Age of Snitching the following year, with a North American tour alongside Kneecap to follow. Now, the duo is back with another new mixtape on the horizon: Formless will be released May 23 via Heavenly.

The first taste of the release leans heavily into Swilley’s background, with the thick guitar riff prominently featured on “8'3"” bringing the lick from DJ Shadow and Run the Jewels’ “Nobody Speak” to mind. “This is a filthy smudge of a garage rock riff that drives hard against a rhythm track that sounds stoned, to say the least,” the duo shares of the single. “‘8'3"’ is rock ’n’ roll music fed into an ultrasonic Funkadelic blender; heavy duty hip-hop boiled back down to some of modern music’s most basic, primal ingredients. A song to make you jump.”
