While they’ve yet to announce a release date for it, Taos-based dream-pop duo Tan Cologne are revealing today that their third LP Unknown Beyond will be even less grounded than the psychedelic haze of their environmentally focused prior material, with the album’s thematic and musical direction maintaining a skyward glance. As with the album title, the record’s first single “Cloud of Mirrors” brings to mind an apt image for the feeling it encapsulates: one of an infinite expanse of fog and indistinguishable landscape in all directions.

The five-minute cut leans into the palettes of drone and ambient more so than the psychedelic, as heard in Tan Cologne’s past output, recalling the aesthetic universe of Midwife or the tamer corners of Ethel Cain’s decidedly not-pop followup to Preacher’s Daughter. “‘Cloud of Mirrors’ is about life happening to you and having to deal with whatever is handed to you—a chemtrail above, being ‘over it,’ knowing we are all interconnected and a part of the disaster and the beauty,” the band shares of the single. “The idea that we are a mirrored image of the sky—manmade or natural, or even simulated. A reflection of everything around you being internally present.”

Check out the hazy music video for the track below, and expect Unknown Beyond out later this year via Labrador Records.
