The type of sweaty, reckless garage-punk that CIVIC have excelled at since their 2021 debut has come in and out of fashion for decades now, though eight years into the project’s existence their dedication to the form has never wavered. On May 30 they’ll be releasing their third full-length, Chrome Dipped, which continues down the road of distinctly Australian noise-rock and post-punk they’ve become well known for, which feels particularly descendent from co-guitarist/co-vocalist Lewis Hodgson’s stint with Cuntz in the early 2010s.
Ahead of that release date, the band is sharing another snarling single with “The Hogg,” a menacing, gluttonous cut which the band claims takes its title from the “disgusting” central riff. “Staring into the abyss and seeing nothing but its pure beauty; surface-level pleasure with sinister undertones; a porcelain dancer draped in flesh, pirouetting to the infinite beat,” the band shares of the song’s meaning. “‘The Hogg’ is my reality. ‘The Hogg’ is my destiny.”
The band further illustrates their vision with a music video directed by Marcus Coblyn wherein a woman gorges herself on sweets, phone in hand, to the point of passing out. Check it out below, and pre-order Chrome Dipped via ATO Records here.
