Nearly two years removed from their self-titled debut, indie-folk duo Flyte returned earlier this year with two new singles that paved the way for today’s news that Will Taylor and Nick Hill will release their fourth album, Between You and Me, at the end of the summer. Bolstered by production from Ethan Johns and a simplistic songwriting ethos, the project’s newly released third single “Hurt People” demonstrates their warmly minimal sound with acoustic guitar, a “Let Down”–esque backing electric riff, brushed drums, and gently reverberating vocals.

Lyrically, the track sees the duo focusing on recovery, with Flyte and Johns making a concerted effort to give the track a visceral feel that puts the listener in their intended setting for it. “We wanted to write a song entirely set in a 12-step meeting and make it a celebration of people healing,” they share. “Those gatherings are often in large multi-purpose spaces, and we love how Ethan evoked that by making the recording of the performance sound so spacious and cinematic. The drums were played outside in the stairwell while we played along inside a more contained part of the studio, which created an instant depth.”

Check out the track below, and pre-save Between You and Me here ahead of its August 29 release via Nettwerk. The band will also be kicking off a world tour shortly after the album’s release, with a set of September dates in the UK giving way to a North American tour throughout October and early November.
