For fear of being hit with a “Sure grandma, let’s get you to bed,” I’ll forgo the background that there were once two DIY East Coast noise-punk bands with the not-safe-for-network-TV word “Pussy” in their moniker and skip to the part where drummer Garrett Koloski went on to co-found Empath by the time Perfect Pussy had officially closed its, um, lips. Three years after that latter project’s lastest release, Visitor, Koloski is back with a new outfit called Nympho, which combines the punk ethos of PP with Empath’s sense of playfulness.
“Looney Tune” serves as the outfit’s debut single, landing ahead of their nine-minute EP Honk If You’re Horny—surely a portmanteau of David Berman and Tim Robinson—which arrives May 30 via Get Better Records. Its spiky, lo-fi quality recalls John Dwyer’s early projects like Coachwhips while its kitchiness feels indebted to newly established labelmates Hunx and His Punx. Check out “Looney Tune” below, and pre-order the EP here.
