Two years removed from their latest album, Philadelphia’s Fullscreen have released a handful of singles lately signifying an evolution from Labyrinthitis’s rock-based song structures. Following two loose tracks released in 2024, the newly unveiled “Make No Mistake” sees the quartet fully immersed in a liminal space between pulsating darkwave and the reverberating layers of dissociated dream-pop as the track builds its various layers of ominous harmonized vocals. It’s shoegaze by M83’s definition of the term—ambient, electronic, otherworldly.
Lyrically, the track embodies the catharsis of facing problems head-on, specifically after letting them fester within the dimly lit confines of the local watering hole. “‘Make No Mistake’ is about the moment you step out of a bar and the emotional beer bottle that’s been shaking up all night finally pops open,” the band shares. “Whether it’s a back-breaking or soul-crushing job, a relationship you shouldn’t be in, or the numbing you do to avoid it all. This song is a reminder that by confronting your issues, you choose your happiness.”
