Today marks the return of Seattle trio Coral Grief, whose new single “Rockhounds” stands as the first taste of their follow-up to their 2021 self-titled debut. Air Between Us is set to arrive July 18 with a digital release via Suicide Squeeze, a vinyl release via Anxiety Blanket Records, and a cassette release via Den Tapes, and the sea-breeze lead single eagerly reacquaints listeners with the band’s briny, gently progging dream-pop sound that brings to mind fellow PNWers Somesurprises.
The band’s aquatic moniker feels particularly relevant on the new track, as its title refers to bassist/vocalist Lena Farr Morrissey’s affinity for beachcombing. “This song is an ode to that process, especially when you don’t find anything but it was still worth the journey,” Farr Morrissey shares of the single, which comes paired with a music video depicting the band engaging in oceanside activities. “This also applies to appreciating the subtleties of an experience over material gain, which is something I’m always working on. The video is immersive and playful in a similar way, jumping back and forth between a day at the beach and a kaleidoscopic stage.”
