Last month we had the privilege of introducing the final pre-album single from Esteban Flores’ debut album as Slow Joy, “Te Amo,” the day before A Joy So Slow at Times I Don’t Think It’s Coming dropped in its entirety via Mick Music. As the record’s preceding EPs suggested, the full-length straddled the line between contemporary emo-punk and alt-rock subgenres like dream-pop and grunge that first had a moment in the ’80s and ’90s.

For his FLOOD FM radio takeover this week, Flores leans into both of these eras with a “Hacked” playlist that ranges from classics by The Smiths and The Clash to present-day sounds courtesy of Beach House and Alvvays (not to mention a couple of scrappier, under-the-radar groups like Shame and Gleemer). Slow Joy’s episode of the series airs every day this week (June 16 – 20) at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. PT only on FLOOD FM.
