Making about as much sense as David Bowie-brand makeup, or Led Zeppelin-designed airplanes, Celtic punk legends The Pogues have announced that they are releasing their own brand of Irish whiskey.
Made in collaboration with West Cork Distillers in County Cork, Ireland, the whiskey is a malt-heavy concoction (apparently so much so that it’s “the Emerald Isle’s highest malt-containing blended Irish whiskey”), and is best described by the makers themselves:
As you would expect, The Pogues Irish Whiskey has as much character as the band itself. Made from a fine blend of grain and single malt Irish whiskey; this mighty drink has an aroma of malts and cracked nuts, with a sweet taste and a smooth intense flavour.
Distribution and timing for the whiskey is still in development, but it should be available in the US sometime soon at around $45 per bottle.
The Pogues, who had their heyday in the late ’80s and early ’90s, haven’t released an album since 1996, so this should help take the edge off while you wait.
