Viet Cong at FLOODfest Chicago / by Chad Kamenshine

FLOODfest Chicago has begun! The Virgin Hotel welcomed us with open arms for our first Midwest FLOODfest (presented by Vnue) and we hit the ground running with a festival weekend kick-off shindig for the ages.

A Virgin Records Happy Hour started the afternoon party with a gorgeous stripped down performance by Broods and an intimate concert by English alt-rockers Coasts. After dinner, the festivities kept rolling with a third floor dance party featuring a raucous set from Canadian post-punk quintet Viet Cong (including an excellent ten-minute noise jam), two separate performances by LCD Soundsystem‘s master groove-maker Nancy Whang (one featuring Golden Touch and one featuring Chris Holmes), and an irresistible DJ set by Arcade Fire‘s Win Butler as DJ Windows 98. He kept the crowd moving with excellently blended tracks including a clutch Carly Simon (“You’re So Vain”) into Stevie Nicks (“Edge of Seventeen”) into Destiny’s Child (“Bootylicious”) groove.

Special thanks to our sponsors Burton, Ernie Ball, and Vnue. Below, check out photos from the first night of FLOODfest, courtesy of Chad Kamenshine.
