After three self-titled albums’ worth of solid output, singer Alice Glass has announced her departure from Crystal Castles this morning on Twitter, citing “a multitude of reasons both professional and personal.”
I am leaving Crystal Castles.

My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others.

For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal I no longer feel that this is possible within CC.

Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles.

Originally a solo project, Crystal Castles became a duo in 2005, when Toronto multi-instrumentalist Ethan Kath approached Glass after seeing her perform, and asked her to write lyrics to some of his tracks. Though reasons for the breakup remain vague, Glass’s tweets indicate that the pursuit of “sincerity, honesty, and empathy for others” within her art had become inhibited by her role in the band. Apparently, she intends to move on as a solo artist.
