Athens, Georgia alt-country ensemble The Pink Stones was initially founded as a solo venture for frontman Hunter Pinkston, yet quickly expanded its scope over the past four years and two LPs. While that musical collaboration continues to blossom on their upcoming third record Thank the Lord… It’s The Pink Stones, there are still some highly personal lyrics on the record—including those on the record’s latest single “Real Sad Movies, Big Jet Planes,” which sees Pinkston primarily reflecting on a new obsession that’s less romantic and more aeronautical.

“I had flown on a plane twice in my life before last year—once as a child and once as an adult,” the songwriter reflects. “Thanks to this band, I was able to spend a handsome amount of time on big jet planes last year. Naturally, with that, I felt like it was time for me to write an airplane song. Our manager loves to joke about my newfound obsession with commercial aviation, but hey, it's all new to me…”

The C&W track does possess a romantic element to it, making it easy listening apt for any barroom—or airport terminal, following yet another delay announcement. Check it out below, and pre-order Thank the Lord… here.
