Devendra Banhart has announced a 20 year anniversary reissue of Cripple Crow, set to be released on September 12. The release marks Banhart’s first via his own Secretly Canadian–distributed label, Heavy Flowers, and it includes five previously unreleased demos, two live recordings, an outtake from the album sessions (“The Seventies”), and the B-side to “Long Haired Child” (“Shame”), along with updated artwork and liner notes penned by Banhart.
Of the reissue, Banhart said: “Cripple Crow! equal parts gag and pride! What a trip! What a ride! What a time! It’s all a bit embarrassing and yet, it was such a beautifully free time of uncensored experimentation and loving camaraderie that I can’t help but be proud to share this reissue with a bunch of new stuff I can’t believe didn’t get burnt in my ‘burning my archives’ phase! Thank you to everyone for sharing bits of pics and ephemera ya had flopping around!”
The announcement arrives with a previously unreleased demo of “I Feel Just Like a Child.” Check it out below, and pre-order the 20th anniversary edition of Cripple Crow here.
