Newport Folk Festival radiated wholesome vibes and a true small-town feel in Rhode Island this past weekend, as longtime attendees united once again to celebrate music and camaraderie. The atmosphere was communal and inviting, and the spirit of a shared love of music filled the air. Despite a surprise storm that threatened to dampen spirits, the festival’s energy remained sunny, and the crowd’s positivity only grew stronger. The lineup included legendary acts like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Public Enemy, and Jeff Tweedy, fan favorites such as Lucius, Sammy Rae, and Remi Wolf, and even showcased incredible emerging talent like Tyler Ballgame, Snacktime, Jensen McRae, and Nova One, highlighting the festival’s role in nurturing musical diversity and emerging voices.
Throughout the weekend, collaborations and special events added an extra layer of magic. Curated by Jack Antonoff and Bleachers, the Ally Coalition Talent Show on Friday brought out special guests including Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy, Maren Morris, Waxahatchee, Weyes Blood, and Rufus Wainwright. The weekend culminated with the infamous “Songs for the People” collaboration emceed by John C. Reilly and organized by Bonny Light Horseman’s Josh Kaufmann.
