Miles Kane first came to the public eye after graduating from a series of local UK indie rock outfits to the more global sensation that was The Last Shadow Puppets—what now can be seen as a supergroup, with Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner as his co-frontman and in-demand producer James Ford on drums. Yet following the release of the post-Britpop group’s 2008 debut, Kane splintered off with a series of Mod-reviving solo records occasionally veering into the equally vintage lanes of soul, sunshine-pop, and glam-rock.
It’s this latter influence that fuels the latest single from his forthcoming LP Sunlight in the Shadows—his first project to be released via Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound, as well as the first to be produced by the Black Keys frontman. While Auerbach’s familiar penchant for soulful rock grooves can be heard throughout “Electric Flower,” the track’s defining trait is its boogying homage to the tradition of T. Rex. “‘Electric Flower’ is a proper glam-rock Saturday-night-feeling tune,” Kane shares. “One of those you stick on to get your strut on and feel good. This one came midway through the creation of the album. Sun was beaming in Nashville, riffs were falling from our heads onto the frets, and the energy between Dan, me, and the band in the studio was electric.”
