After generating a level of buzz that nearly matches their scuzzed-out soundbeds with the release of their self-titled EP back in 2022, Austin group Fuck Money recently announced a full LP of the same name that more deeply explores their experimental take on hardcore-punk and the anti-capitalist messaging suggested by the moniker they chose for the project. Produced by Jesse F. Keeler and released via Three One G, these songs tend to land somewhere between the frenetic sounds of Keeler’s pre-DFA1979 band Femme Fatale and 31G labelhead Justin Pearson’s work with The Locust and beyond. Yet at no point on Fuck Money does the LP not sound entirely rooted in the band’s own universe.
The band’s latest single ahead of the record’s release next Friday is called “Dead Man,” and it blends these influences perfectly while coasting off the pure manic energy that comes naturally to the band. “Our writing process is an act of capturing energy and our chaotic musical impulses and then succinctly forming those moments into songs,” shares drummer Alton Jenkins. “That energy is steeped in our existential and sociopolitical realities, however, we’re never committed to one style or approach. We prefer to innovate.”
Regarding those sociopolitical realities, Jenkins elucidates: “‘Dead Man’ brings awareness to the disinformation campaign aimed at our society and its creation of a populace of merciless and unforgiving people. These people applaud the ruling elite as business-savvy philanthropists rather than recognizing them as monsters who profit from global suffering.”
