Born in Mumbai and based in LA after attending music school in Michigan, Shaan Chhadva has channeled his creative passion into a number of monikers over the years. He introduced SCayos with an outpouring of collaborative singles beginning in 2019 which were largely instrumental lo-fi hip-hop beats—but with his latest EP, felt like forever, the project has shape-shifted into a bedroom-pop formation with Chhadva softly delivering personal lyrics over a rock-band setup.
On a recent trip back to his childhood home in Mumbai, the artist performed three of the tracks from that EP—“michigan,” “funny life,” and “weight of the moon”—for a “Neighborhoods” session. Set up in that space with an electric guitar, the hushed set competes with the sound of traffic outside. “Mumbai is a beautiful city filled with chaos,” he shares. “It can be unforgiving at times, but it’s a city where it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from; you are always accepted there. I am thankful to have been born in the city that I’ll always call my hometown.”
Check out the performance below, and expect felt like forever to drop on September 5.
