Hop on the subway and ride with me to the Show Me the Body gig, where the heroic post-hardcore weirdos will be performing “One Train,” an old song you may know if you’re a SMtB devotee. A new re-release of the track coincides with a 10th anniversary edition of Body War, their debut album which launched the group onto the scene in June of 2016. The newly recorded version of the cut that originally appeared on the 2014 Yellow Kidney EP is now available on streaming platforms for the first time.
“One Train” comes with a new music video shot in Rome, directed by the band’s Julian Cashwan Pratt and CORPUS’s Asha Maura. The clip pays homage to the original music video, which featured Pratt and his kung fu teacher David Kaplan training and exploring downtown New York. I love an homage to homemade kung fu footage.
Regarding the video, Pratt said: “I MET MY SIFU WHEN I WAS 15 YEARS OLD. I WAS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME AS A YOUTH, AND HE MENTORED ME WITH LOVE AND RESPECT. HE TRAINED ME IN SHAOLIN KUNG FU IN THE CHRISTIE ST. PARK AND ON SOME DAYS IN THE COLUMBUS PARK PAGODA. HE TAUGHT ME DISCIPLINE AND SELF-RESPECT. HE GAVE ME A MAP TO CONDUCT MYSELF WITH MILITANCY AND LOVE. HE USED TO TELL ME A PHRASE, TOLD TO HIM BY HIS SIFU SHI YAN MING, ‘TRAIN ONE DAY, GAIN ONE DAY, SKIP ONE DAY, LOSE THREE DAYS.’ I’VE APPLIED THIS MENTALITY TO ALL ASPECTS OF MY LIFE. I AM IN DEBT TO MY SIFU. THIS VIDEO IS DEDICATED TO DAVID KAPLAN, MY SIFU, AND EVERYONE ELSE ILLUMINATING THE PATH OF HARD WORK AND LOVE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION TO COME. ”
