The pastoral sounds of Tim Carr’s new solo album Pleasure Drives were largely inspired by the setting of their creation: Tujunga, California, in the Crescenta Valley at the foot of the Verdugo Mountains. After spending the past decade performing with the likes of Perfume Genius, Hand Habits, and Tasha, this new solo material strikes a balance between these songwriting influences and his hometown of the past four years, which he states feels like “a fictional place, where there are big ideas floating around ready to be caught.”
Naturally, Tujunga serves as the setting for his “Neighborhoods” performance of the upcoming album’s title track, which he plays outside his home on a Casio CT-410V synth. “It’s my first attempt at reimagining one of the songs off the album for live performance,” he shares of the video, shot at sunset on a digital camera with the assistance of Leila Hejazi. “This stripped-down version is accompanied by a chorus of crickets and a nearby trickling fountain.”
