Midlake have announced that they will either be taking a bridge to a place called “Far” or to a place that’s far away (or both!). Their new Sam Evian–produced album, the grammatically confusing A Bridge to Far, will arrive on November 7. First single “The Ghouls,” which is also a good and underused insult, is a psych-rock collage built around skittering guitar melodies and a drum groove with so many ghost notes you might as well call it Casper. The song is good—at the very least it’s better than that joke.

The song was written during a time in which the band didn’t know whether or not they would continue. “It helped us build songs together again,” said Midlake’s Eric Pulido, “and hopefully encourages others to want to hear the full collection.” I, for one, am encouraged.
