Given that most of his music career has unfolded outside of the spotlight—as a member of bands like Teens in Trouble, or supporting higher-profile figures like Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba on his solo ventures—it’s maybe no surprise to see Randy Moore coming into his own with his solo project Bones Shredder. As the moniker suggests, the songs on his debut album Morbid Little Thing permit him to follow any riff-inspired whim that overtakes him across these 10 pop-punk tunes that match the catharsis of his personal lyrics with the exploration of ideas recycled from previously scrapped projects and other miscellania that may not fit the mold he’d initially established for the Bones Shredder endeavor.

Case in point, the record’s latest single “Pulling Teeth” explores relationship issues while reviving a composition from at least five years ago that never found a home. “The song is about trying to navigate through a one-sided relationship—extending yourself, trying to appease the other person, while getting nothing in return,” Moore explains of the track, which lands somewhere between the radio power-pop sweetness of “Stacy’s Mom” and the grungy edge of Ovlov. “Originally, this song was for a band I was going to start before the pandemic happened. For one reason or another it didn’t pan out, leaving me with a couple of songs sitting on my laptop. I thought this song deserved a second chance and I’m happy to share it today.”
