Last July, Pictureplane returned with a new song called “Velvet Lies (Metallic Garden),” which looked to the distant past in its Thee Physical–recreating single artwork—as well as the far more distant past in its coldwave vocal distortion making Travis Egedy’s usual whispery voice completely unrecognizable. This past May’s “Heaven Is a State of Mind” followed suit, and today we’re not only getting a third taste of this low-register gothic-industrial sound, but also news of a proper album in which these tracks will be held: Sex Distortion will drop October 31 via Music Website.
The new track, “Weeping Sky,” sounds the most familiar to Pictureplane’s previously established universe, albeit with the clubby synth sounds hitting at a far more leisurely pace. “I wanted to make a song that was like slowed-down emotional trance music,” Egedy explains. “Some sort of goth trance banger.” Mission accomplished!
The single comes paired with a music video that depicts “a psychedelic night out on the town in Manhattan in a misty haze”—check that out below, and pre-order Sex Distortion here. You can also revisit our chat with Pictureplane around his last album, Dopamine, here.
