Adult Swim‘s 2015 Singles program has been rolling out great stand-alone jams since the beginning of June (not to mention last month’s fuzzed-out banger “Bodyline” by Peaches and Nick Zinner), but the cable network/cultural hub that is responsible for Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Too Many Cooks shows no signs of stopping…until the middle of October. Don’t fret about the impending end to the free download train just yet, because, today, AS released a brand-new song by Shabazz Palaces.
“The Mystery of Lonnie The Døn” is the first new music that we’ve heard from Ishmael Butler and Tendai Maraire since 2014’s excellent Lese Majesty, and it does not disappoint. The track’s textured layers of various glitchy synths, droning melodies, and echoed, whispered vocals bore their way into your head as the slow-jam beat repeats over and over. It’s hard not to get caught up in the sonic mystery and fog that the Seattle duo has concocted.
