For their upcoming fourth album, indie-pop duo Haerts brought their sound close to home—quite literally. In addition to the highly personal subject matter explored on the album by band members and romantic partners Nini Fabi and Benny Gebert, Laguna Road was written and recorded at their home on the street of the same name in Pasadena, California, instilling these songs with fleeting glimpses of the longtime-couple’s domestic life.

With the record’s latest single and harrowing closer “Wait for Us” out today, the band is revisiting the previously released track “The Lie” for an exclusive “FLOOD Sessions” performance. “To create the visual world for the album, Julian Klincewicz would come by the house on Laguna Road now and then, just to shoot what was there,” the duo explains, setting up the intimate clip. “The studio, the kids, the chaos, the kitchen sink—[and] on this particular day, us playing ‘The Lie’ in the living room. We did it a couple of times, and he captured us in one shot as we were: together, quiet, flawed. That’s how it resonated with the song.”

The song itself, like the rest of the album, focuses on the pair’s longstanding relationship both as musical collaborators and as a family unit. “‘The Lie’ is about the beginning of our 20-year journey as a couple and as collaborators,” they note. “The vows we made, the promises we broke, and the history we share—sometimes heavy, sometimes the only thing that kept us together, and that shaped who we are now.”
