Born and raised in Spain and now based in Queens, self-taught guitarist and songwriter Marem Ladson has been gaining traction over the past seven years since she released her self-titled debut LP. Having since released a slew of EPs and singles, and having toured with artists including Helado Negro and Squirrel Flower, the next step in her musical journey is a signing with Mtn Laurel Recording Co., home to a growing roster of like-minded bedroom-pop solo artists.
Along with the signing, Ladson is sharing a new single called “Cavity” that features a full backing band made up of Nick Hakim, Will Graefe, Nuria Graham, and Jeremy Gustin. The track feels like a more rural take on former tourmate Squirrel Flower’s soaring balladry, gradually swelling following the artist’s opening humble brag that she’s never once had a cavity. “I’m surrendering to the fact that there are things I’ll never have answers for,” she shares of the song. “It’s a way of letting go and saying out loud what had been kept quiet for too long. Of giving shape to anger, confusion, grief—but also to resilience. It’s about reclaiming my story and choosing not to carry the silence, the shame, the weight that was never mine to hold.”
I’ve never had a cavity, either. Just saying! Check out the video below, or stream the track here.
