After accumulating buzz over the past four years leading to tours with Smashing Pumpkins and Sunny Day Real Estate, LA-based alt-rockers Rocket will finally release their debut album R Is for Rocket tomorrow via Transgressive Records. The noisy indie-pop sound they previously established on their 2023 Versions of You EP gets expanded upon for these 10 tracks, which each launch the band further into the stratospheres of grunge, shoegaze, and other fondly recalled ’90s alt-rock subgenres that each seem to be having a moment again in the 2020s.

As the new record’s singles began to drop near the end of the summer, Rocket made a trip out to NYC for, among other things, an impromptu show with their friends Been Stellar at the tiny East Village venue Night Club 101. And for the record, those very important “other things” included Skee-Ball, stone-skipping, and lots of pranks. For an insider’s look at Alithea Tuttle, Desi Scaglione, Baron Rinzler, and Cooper Ladomade’s time in the city, check out their “Backstage Camera Roll” from the afternoon below.

We touched down in New York City, a.k.a. “The Big Apple,” and of course made a stop at a local prank/Halloween store to pick up some staple accessories.

Cooper tried on a hat that perfectly suits her vibe.

After a long day of pranking, we headed over to Prospect Park to skip some rocks. Baron is incredible at skipping rocks and won the Montana state championship for skipping rocks back in ’09.

Desi looking oh-so-sweet by the lake. Not pictured is the swan fight that happened shortly after this photo was taken.

Here we have the boys sitting and the girls standing. This was unintentionally done, however we have decided this is how we will play every show moving forward.

Pictured here is Baron as he gets his head in the game for the big show we threw together last-minute at Night Club 101 in New York City.

It’s showtime! Pro tip: You always have to bring your purse with you onstage in case someone calls and wants to chat with you mid-set.

Sold out!

The show is done and we are red, sweaty, and tired. But the night is not over…

Finally…after a long day of pranking, skipping rocks by the lake, looking good for the camera, and an impromptu show, we all headed to a bar equipped with a Skee-Ball machine. We set the high score on the machine and rejoiced like never before. God bless rock music and Skee-Ball.
