It’s been six years since Erin Durant released her second album, Islands, which was produced by TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone after the two first connected back in 2016. They reunited back in May for Durant’s third album, Firetrail, which featured the track “Fountain” as its penultimate cut. “The melody and lyrics for this song started out improvisational one day at the piano, which thankfully I had a recorder going,” she explains before noting that she quickly picked up on the 1970s Greenwich Village vibes inherent to the tune. “When I listened back I felt like Karen Dalton had visited for a moment, which made me happy. So for a while, the working title was ‘KD Blues.’”
With the record celebrating its five-month anniversary last week, she’s continued to tour these songs up through earlier this month, including a few dates opening for TV on the Radio. Additionally, today she’s sharing a music video for “Fountain” that was actually one of the first elements to come together for Firetrail. “Putting something out into the world can take time, and this video was made at the beginning of the process for me of unfolding this record,” she shares. “It captures something from that time a couple years ago, and I’m happy to get to put it out and honor that time.”
