Grace Inspace has announced that her new EP Heavy Hair is set to be released on February 27 via TODO. The project’s crunching, buzzy, hooky first single is out now. “‘Emergency Contact’ is the story of a lifelong people-pleaser reaching her breaking point,” Inspace shared of the track. “It’s a moment of self-realization—when anger, long suppressed, finally spills over and becomes the spark for change. In the chorus, I sing about storing resentment in ‘our heavy hair,’ a metaphor that’s lived with me since I was a kid. I used to draw girls with hair so heavy it dragged along the floor, weighed down by everything unsaid and would tell my mum my hair felt heavy with emotions.
“I saw those drawings again before writing this song,” she continued, “and to me it captured how women are taught to please, to smooth over, to silence any emotion deemed ugly or excessive. Our hair—heavy with the weight of pandering and pleasing. The song came to life almost entirely in one night, sitting on the couch with Parker Mulherin, recording vocals straight into voice notes. It poured out and was one of the most liberating writing experiences I’ve had.”
