Back in August, Irish trio Kingfishr released their debut album on the heels of their smash-hit single “Killeagh” helping them sell out their US tour earlier in the year. With that track serving as a centerpiece, Halcyon featured an alluring blend of contemporary indie-folk sounds and traditional Irish music that provides a live-in feel for these 16 recordings. “The songs were written in a small kitchen where generations of farmers became singers and storytellers when the work was done,” the band shared upon the album’s release. “The name ‘Halcyon’ is a nod to the landscape and heritage that has molded our music, even though the songs don’t all come from a happy or peaceful place.”
Far from the green pastures of their homeland, Kingfishr recorded a “Neighborhoods” session in the midst of their most recent US takeover. Set up on a stoop in Chicago’s Lincoln Park near the area’s Park West venue ahead of their show there last month, the trio gave a spirited performance of “Killeagh” stripped down to acoustic guitar, banjo, and vocals. Naturally, frontman Eddie Keogh rocks a Mr. Beef tee. Check it out below.
