Whitney Whitney released her debut EP 1.1 over the summer via Atlantic Records, with the tight four-song tracklist whetting listeners’ thirsts for what the LA-based songwriter may have in the pipeline. “It’s like a dance of every emotion felt together,” the artist shared of the sonic variance that defines the project—despite its unified sense of autobiographical songwriting—upon its release in July. “That’s what I love about this project. It’s so many things at once that all mean so much to me.”

With the promise of another new single on the horizon, Whitney Whitney recently took to a rooftop in Downtown LA’s Arts District to perform two songs from 1.1 for “Neighborhoods.” Backed by a full band including guitar, percussion, keys, and cello, the vocalist gave impassioned performances of EP centerpieces “Touching You” and “Cicadas.” “‘Touching You’ explores what my mind thought falling in love again would feel like,” she shared of the first track, which she clarifies was written at a time when she was “so far removed from love and relationships.” As for the latter, she adds that “Cicadas” was written “after a toxic relationship where I tricked myself that the painful parts of it were love.”
