Brooklyn indie punks LAPêCHE don’t need to justify anything—it’s all in the title of their third album, Autotelic, a statement that feels increasingly antithetical to album release cycles. The follow-up to 2021’s Blood in the Water and the group’s first album released through Tiny Engines, the 10-song collection evolves their post-punk influence to create something more melodic with the assistance of producer Alex Newport, once known for adding shape to jagged recordings from At the Drive-In and The Locust before turning his attention to post-punk acts like Bloc Party and Cheekface.

The fourth single to arrive from the collection, “Double Knotted,” is perhaps the darkest cut yet from Autotelic, leaning as it does into a gothic, synthy vein of indie rock that occasionally brings Metric to mind. “This song is about grounding yourself in the midst of chaos,” shares band leader Krista Holly Diem, “finding balance amid uncertainty and motion. It’s not about achieving perfection or gaining control, it’s about persistence and presence.”

Check out the new tune below, and pre-order Autotelic here ahead of its February 6 release.
