Spencer Cullum has announced that Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection 3 is set to be released on March 27 via Full Time Hobby. Ahead of the series’ third volume (part one was released in 2021 and part two arrived in 2023), Cullum has unveiled “Rowan Tree,” a mesmerizing folk-rock track built around interlocking guitar and bass melodies and a simple, direct drum line. Cullum’s delivery is simultaneously laid back and powerful, letting his evocative lyricism carry the emotional heft of the song.

Says Cullum about the track: “I wrote this in Newlyn, Cornwall after reading about the Rowan Tree in folk mythology, it being a protector of evil forces. The first Rowan tree was created by the first woman. I had an idea that every time an evil man tries to attack the tree it devours them and puts them back into the earth.”

“Rowan Tree” comes with a hand-drawn stop-animation video by artist Gaia Alari. Check that out below, and pre-order Spencer Cullum’s Coin Collection 3 here.
