Trve-kvlt black metal kids and very soft goth kids that really appreciate folk music with a dark leaning unite! This May, Toronto’s heaviest music fest Prepare the Ground will return for its third year, with yet another exciting list of acts playing across the city for a full weekend. The fairly specific demographics listed above as determined by festival co-founder KW Campol in our 2024 profile of the event in its inaugural year are just a few of the avenues of dark sounds taking the stage this year, with one of the biggest highlights being …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead banging out their 2002 post-hardcore masterpiece Source Tags & Codes (along with the following year’s Secret of Elena’s Tomb EP) in full.
Today the event is revealing its final wave of artists performing this year, which includes loop disintegrator William Basinski, sludge-punks Portrayal of Guilt, doom-metal one-man-band Mizmor, and avant-folk experimenter Kathryn Mohr. You can find the full list of performers below (which includes special sets from Pallbearer and Oathbreaker focused on individual albums, as well as two different sets from Amenra which you may attend based on which of their EPs from last year you preferred), and grab tickets for the event here.
