Nate Mendelsohn is gearing up to release his fifth LP as Market. Cleanliness 2: Gorgeous Technologies will be released via Western Vinyl on February 27, and the songwriter’s latest single, “The Visitors,” is out now. Featuring contributions from producer/multi-instrumentalist Mike Haldeman and vocalist Rose Droll, the song is a delightful ’n’ delirious wacko-pop 3D rendering built around explosive drums, buzzing bass melodies, and vocal ideas that sound like Battles covering The Beach Boys. If you paid for music based on number of fun ideas in a song, “The Visitors” would cost way too much money.
“When I started it I was thinking a lot about the first track on Yeezus, and that album in general, trying to have the rhythm be the main character and keep things minimal, focused, clear, and icy,” Mendelsohn shares. “Lyrically, it falls into a long line of Market songs: It is stream-of-consciousness, an anxious fever dream. Some other songs on this record have more lyrical focus, more of a story. This one instead is like falling down the slide that brings you into the world of Gorgeous Technologies. It's all laid out and a bit overwhelming.”
