beaming is the rare sort of musical duo that was born from a natural creative pairing that inspires a sort of perpetual motion. The new project from The Districts’ Braden Lawrence and solo artist/producer Derek Ted—known for his work with Christopher Owens, Field Medic, and Runnner—didn’t have plans to release music beyond a lone EP before they realized that their chemistry was too strong to let this thing go. “I feel like this project created a source of magic and joy for both of us, and we both have been working hard to keep things moving forward,” the duo shares. “We realized our secret power was we can create records together without much help or spending any money, so let’s just write as much as we can and not be scared to throw shit out if it’s not working.”

Now, beaming is gearing up for the release of their debut album horseshoe on April 17. Today they’ve shared their first new single since last year’s self-titled EP, with the album’s second track “Say Goodbye” laying the groundwork for what’s to come. It’s a breezy indie-pop tune that’s as catchy as it is lyrically downcast. “We wanted to make a song that felt fun and fresh to our own ears,” the duo notes of the single. “We were both going through some parallel emotional things in our life, and wanted to make something that expresses those feelings while having fun at the same time. Like fuck it, let’s make a song with a guitar solo.”

Hear them rip said guitar solo below via the track’s music video, directed by Olivia Alonso Gough, which sees Lawrence and Ted pay homage to Psycho, Ghost, and Hamlet on laundry day. You can also pre-order horseshoe here via Rose Garden Records, and find their upcoming tour dates with Field Medic here.
