Jasmine Golestaneh has been slowly sculpting Tempers’s sonic identity for over a decade now, with the project evolving from an atmospheric, Chromatics-like approach to glistening synthpop music into clubby darkwave. The upcoming Delusion will mark the project’s fourth full-length release, with psych-pop visionary Jorge Elbrecht co-producing the record alongside Golestaneh. After teasing the album a few months back with the moody track “Sublevel,” today we’re getting the first official single with the more upbeat “Who Says.” Built upon bouncy synths and Golestaneh’s soaring vocals, the track also features plenty of the industrial clamor and dark lyricism we’ve come to expect from Tempers. “It’s about idealized love falling apart and celebrating emotional independence,” Golestaneh shares of the single. “It’s also the sound of someone convincing themselves they don’t need what they long for.”
Directed by Fabiànne Thérèse Gstöttenmayr, the track’s music video feels like a pretty apt visual for the music with its introduction to the artist as a “hybrid creature” you might expect to find crouched behind the Winkie’s dumpster. It’s a pretty goofy concept that both eerily captures the feeling of stepping into an unloving relationship and lets the costume designers go wild. Check it out below, and pre-order Delusion here before the album drops on April 24.
