Continuing with the dreamy indie-rock sounds heard on her solo material as Honey Cutt, Kaley Honeycutt is sharing the debut single from her new band Pippy today. The Brooklyn-based group has been honing their live set among NYC’s DIY punk scene for over a year now, with a self-titled debut album on the horizon that aims to bring that more serrated take on dream pop to a wider audience. In the meantime, “Angelina” is here to tide us over with Honeycutt’s soft vocals longingly floating over droning guitars and a tight rhythm section.
“I wrote this song during my first winter in New York,” the songwriter shares. “Late one night, I recorded drum sounds on my porch using broken glass and bottle caps on cold cement, reflecting the jagged emotional landscape I was moving through at the time. I leaned fully into that feeling while writing, recording, and creating the visuals with Aidan [Nolan], and I hope that feeling resonates.”
Check out the softly glowing music video for the track, filmed in the snowy cityscape. Pippy, the group’s debut album, is out May 15—pre-order it here via Sad Cactus Records. The band will also be playing a handful of local shows, including a March 5 set in Ridgewood, a March 9 show in Brooklyn, and a Valentine’s Day Eve show this Friday at Alphaville—find more info on the latter here.
