Glasgow’s Cowboy Hunters are the Scottish answer to the insane energy projects like Lip Critic have brought to the American noise-punk landscape lately, with the duo understandably building a cult following in the UK and beyond with their chaotic live shows (Franz Ferdinand’s Alex Kapranos dubbed them “the coolest band in Glasgow right now”—and I think he’d know). Last month they released the drinking anthem “Have a Pint,” which served as the first taste of an upcoming EP titled EPeepee, which is probably all you need to know about this band before hitting play on their latest digi-punk statement.
It’s also all you need to know before tapping into the playlist they put together for us, which takes a fairly unconventional approach to the “influences” conversation. I don’t doubt that their knowledge of Insane Clown Posse novelty hits, butt-rock anthems, and Electric Wizard riffs had some bearing on their creative journey, though the tracks they assembled for us have instead been billed as the ideal songs to hunt cowboys to. Everybody knows the buckaroos hate ABBA.
With their EP—again, called EPeepee—dropping March 20, check out the playlist below. If you’re in Ireland, you can also catch the band all weekend opening for Sleaford Mods (naturally) on a series of dates in Dublin, Belfast, and Cork.
Bob Sinclair (and a bunch of other people), “Rock This Party (Everybody Dance Now)”
It makes you dance.
Crazy Frog, “Axel F.”
Enough said.
Nickelback, “Rockstar”
A song we have both always found really inspiring. A reminder to not let our dreams be dreams. Ambition! This song keeps us going to this day. Play it at our funerals.
Insane Clown Posse, “Chop Chop Slide”
Evil cha cha slide. Makes you dance again. But evilly.
Electric Wizard, “Funeralopolis”
Best riff ever written. Objectively. Play it at my funeral(opolis).
Maroon 5, “She Will Be Loved”
Nah, only joking.
Tempa T, “Next Hype”
My grandfather loved this song.
“Shetland Two Step”
By Christ, yins a boston!
ABBA, “On and on and On”
This song makes you want to drink Echo Falls and act a whore.
Rubikdice, “LEEEEZ GO”
I love phonk! Phonk if you’re phonky.
