On the heels of releasing the live rarity “Naeem (Can’t You Hear Crying)” in protest to ICE’s infiltration of Minnesota, and shortly after (presumably) announcing his debut live show as a Bob Dylan cover band, Bon Iver is back today with news of a Dylan-esque archival project titled Volumes. The first installment of the series—Selections From Music Concerts 2019-2023 Bon Iver 6 Piece Band—is slated to arrive on April 3 via Jagjaguwar with a 2022 performance of “Heavenly Father” in Milan serving as the release’s first single. “This particular set of 10 songs is like, ‘Here, if you’ve never heard Bon Iver, or you have and you didn’t like it, this might be for you,” Justin Vernon shared in a press statement. “This is what we became. This is really us at our best. This is it."
Vernon began work on Volumes: One as early as 2020, carefully selecting the release’s track list from dozens of hours of footage recorded over the course of four years following the release of 2019’s i,i. Future installments promise “demos, unreleased recordings, and other previously unheard material, presenting the many eras and multitudes that make up ‘Bon Iver.’”
